When Should I Replace My Tires?

The average tire life is usually between 25,000 and 50,000 miles. Many factors go into how long tires last; such as your driving habits, the vehicle alignment, proper inflation and even the characteristics of the tire itself. If you're wondering if your tires are worn to the point of needing replacement, we have a simple test you can do at home in your own driveway.

THE PENNY TEST

Step 1 of the Penny Test

Step 1: Place a penny between the tread ribs on your tire. A "rib" refers to the raised portion of tread that spans the circumference of your tire. Tire tread is composed of several ribs.

Step 2 of the Penny Test

Step 2: Place the penny so that Lincoln's head is facing down into the tread.

Step 3 of the Penny Test

Step 3: See if the top of his head disappears between the ribs. If you can see his entire head, it may be time to replace the tire because your tread is no longer deep enough to provide proper traction and performance.
