About the Volvo XC40

The Volvo XC40 sets the standard for a compact luxury SUV, highlighted by a striking design, advanced safety innovations, and cutting-edge technology. The XC40 arrived in the US as one of the safest, most well-equipped compact SUVs on the market thanks to award-winning technology already found on the XC90 and XC60 models. Providing the foundation for all vehicles in the Volvo 40 series, the XC40 was the first model to utilize Volvo Cars' Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform in 2018. The 2024 XC40 comes well equipped, with a potent 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated to an 8-speed Geartronicâ„¢ automatic transmission and a mild hybrid system. This makes a total of 194 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, or 247 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque with the available B5 drivetrain. What's New for 2026

There have been several changes to the XC40 for 2026, including the adaptive cruise control and front park assist becoming standard equipment. The Black Edition treatment that Volvo offers for a number of vehicles in the Ultra trim is also available for the XC40 now. But the biggest news is a lower starting price, thanks to the newly reintroduced B4 FWD drivetrain, which is now also the standard drivetrain option, though the B5 AWD is still available as an option.
