Volvo Gas Mileage - MPG Comparison for 2026 Models

Volvo Gas Mileage Overview

Across the globe, Volvo vehicles have achieved a renowned reputation for their exquisite exterior styling, innovative safety features, luxuriously-appointed interiors, and proven durability. Another core strength of Volvo vehicles is fuel efficiency, helping to set the benchmark for the luxury segment.

Without making any sacrifices of performance, the Volvo lineup now features some of the most technologically advanced and fuel-efficient engines available on the market. In fact, Volvo's entire lineup is now at least partially electrified. A sizable percentage of these are either pure electrics or plug-in hybrids. But now even the gas-powered models all have fuel-saving mild hybrid systems. Below you will find useful charts which provide you with greater insight into the gas mileage for the most popular models in the Volvo model lineup.

Volvo Mild Hybrid Technology & Benefits

A mild hybrid electric vehicle, or MHEV, is one with an integrated starter motor (or ISG) and an electric motor to help improve efficiency without sacrificing performance. The 48-volt system charges its battery through regenerative braking, which converts the energy usually lost during braking into electricity. This electricity powers the electric motor, which works with the gas engine to give you more power and better fuel economy at the same time. This system is now standard in all Volvo models that aren't plug-in hybrids or EVs. Below are some of the benefits that come with this advanced system.

Environmentally Friendly

Improved fuel economy means lower emissions, and this is always more environmentally friendly. It's all part of Volvo's commitment to sustainability.

Boosted Performance

Electric motors are at their best when gasoline motors need the most help, at low RPM. From a dead stop, the electric motor in your Volvo mild hybrid will give you a boost while the gasoline engine is getting up to speed. It means more power available more of the time.

No Range/Charging Anxiety

From a driving perspective, a mild hybrid works the same as any other gasoline-powered vehicle. The system generates and stores the electricity it uses itself, no need for you to find a charging station or worry about battery levels.

Volvo Plug-In Hybrids and Pure Electric Models

As you can see from the above charts, Volvo's T8 AWD drivetrain is by far the most efficient of the gasoline drivetrains. That's because the T8 is a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, and quite an impressive one at that, since that efficiency also comes with 455 horsepower. But it isn't your only option from Volvo for staying away from the gas station, Volvo has a whole line of fully electric vehicles as well. Here they are, along with their range ratings:

  • EX90 -305 miles
  • EX60 -400 miles
  • EX40 -260 miles
  • EX30 -253 miles
*All fuel economy estimates taken from the U.S. Department of Energy (fueleconomy.gov). Actual mileage may vary based on driving style, vehicle condition, and other factors.
