What's New for 2023

Volvo made some major changes to the XC90 for 2023. While the styling itself remains mostly unchanged, there are new paint options, as well as new wheels and interior colors. The trim levels have been changed too, with standard equipment being rearranged. All-wheel drive, for example, is now standard on all trims and all powertrains. The three trims are now Core, Plus, and Ultimate. There is a Climate Package to add heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and headlamp washers to trims where those aren't standard. The Lounge Package, available only on the Ultimate trim, adds extra luxury features, such as a massage function in the front seats.

Volvo has replaced the T5 and T6 powertrains with the B5 and B6. These differ mostly in that they are now mated to a 48V mild hybrid system. Power output has changed very little as a result, but fuel economy has improved. The T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain kept its name, but output has been increased to 455 horsepower. Volvo's Sensus infotainment system is no more. Instead, Volvo now uses a built-in Google operating system similar to Android Auto. And for Apple users, CarPlay is still a standard feature on all trims. The optional premium audio is now made by Harmon Kardon.

Multiple Powertrain Options

The B5 and B6 the two most popular powertrain choices available on the XC90. Although both use 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engines, and both have 48V mild hybrid systems, they have been tuned to different power outputs. The B5 produces 247 horsepower and 258lb-ft of torque, while the B6 produces 295 horsepower and 310lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard with both.

Sitting atop the range is a T8 Plug-In Hybrid engine that delivers E-AWD, 455 combined system horsepower, and an exceptional 66 MPGe fuel economy equivalent**.
