Several engines are offered on the XC90, two of them equipped with a 48V mild hybrid system, ranging from 247 horsepower up to the range-topping 400 horsepower from the T8 Plug-In Hybrid powertrain. The Volvo XC90 offers uninhibited styling combined with innovative technology to create an unmistakable luxury SUV.
What the Critics Say
“One reason we like the XC90 so much is that it’s far prettier than any of its competition. It’s easy for a three-row crossover to turn out as a dull box, but Volvo’s designers manage to drape delicate sheetmetal over the XC90’s bones in a way that draws the eye. On this tester, the graceful Denim Blue bodywork contrasts against chrome and brushed-metal accents. Bold lighting elements, with LEDs and the well-known “Thor’s Hammer” running lights, also add curb appeal.” — Roadshow by CNET
“After driving the XC90 again, it reminded me of why I fell in love with it initially. The style, the easy-going driving experience and the well implemented safety features still make it a standout in this class – the sum is somehow greater than the parts.” — Cars.com
Volvo XC90 Features
Multiple Powertrain Options
The B5 and B6 the two most popular powertrain choices available on the XC90. Although both use 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engines, and both have 48V mild hybrid systems, they have been tuned to different power outputs. The B5 produces 247 horsepower and 258lb-ft of torque, while the B6 produces 295 horsepower and 310lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard with both.
Sitting atop the range is a T8 Plug-In Hybrid engine that delivers E-AWD, 455 combined system horsepower, and an exceptional 66 MPGe fuel economy equivalent**.
B5 vs. B6 Engine Comparison
Luxurious Interior
The Volvo XC90 offers an interior that features not only elegant styling but also spacious cargo room. The leather upholstery and aluminum and wood accents express the Scandinavian design and the 50/50 third row offers impressive legroom of 31.9 inches. And with up to 65.5 cubic feet of cargo space, the XC90 can accommodate any weekend adventure. Available CleanZone air technology helps to improve interior air quality while simultaneously removing harmful bacteria and particles throughout the cabin.
Advanced Technology
Built-in Google with standard Apple CarPlay simplifies your life by giving you access to information, entertainment, and safety features all while keeping your eyes on the road. Built-in Wi-Fi ensures you and your guests will always be connected. Standard Google Maps Navigation will help you get to your destination with its 3D imaging, voice recognition, and routing options. XC90 has an available air suspension system on all four wheels. This system comes in handy when loading cargo or hitching up a trailer.
