About the Volvo EX30

With the EX30, Volvo brings a practical and desirable small electric SUV to city dwellers, who have previously had all too few options when shopping for an EV. Along with the flagship EX90, the EX30 is part of Volvo's new all-electric lineup, and the two share quite a few appealing features. The EX30 is available with a choice of two different drivetrains, both of which come with impressive power and range. The interior features a next-generation evolution of Volvo's signature design language, not to mention the comfort and calm that customers have come to expect from Volvo interiors. Buyers expecting the kind of attention to safety that Volvo is famous for will also be pleased by the high level of safety tech packed into the EX30. The EX30 is everything you expect from a Volvo, and also raises the bar on what you can expect.

What the Critics Say

"The feel in the EX30 is all Volvo: Modern, thoughtful and solidly built. The drive is not a disappointment: powerful and responsive. And the price, well, that's a delightful surprise. When we start to see the Volvo EX30 on the street this summer, expect a lot of discussion around rethinking the viability of electric cars." — Forbes

"Guiding the EX30 through the crowded streets of Barcelona is a joy, as its 104.3-inch wheelbase and 166.7-inch overall length are tailor-made for dicing it up with the city cars and scooters that populate most of the Comital City's traffic." — Car & Driver

Volvo EX30 Features

Volvo EX30

Efficient Performance

The EX30 comes with a choice of two different drivetrains, a rear-wheel drive option with one motor, and twin-motor option that drives all four wheels. Both use the same 69 kWh battery pack, which gives the single-motor EX30 an impressive 275-mile range. AWD EVs always have a shorter range, but one of the more impressive engineering accomplishments you'll find on the EX30 is the efficiency of the drivetrain, and the twin-motor setup gets 265 miles of range. Just as impressive is the power you get with the EX30. The singe-motor version produces 268 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. That's a lot for a small SUV, but those who need more can opt for the second motor and the 422 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque that comes with that setup. That much power gives the twin-motor EX30 a 0-60 time of just 3.4 seconds, the quickest 0-60 time of any Volvo model in history. All of this already raises the bar for compact electric SUVs, but you can also charge it quickly, with DC fast charging taking you from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 26.5 minutes.

Volvo EX30 Interior

Serene Interior

The EX30 is at its most Scandinavian on the inside. Here the familiar design practice of simple and ergonomic design using high-quality materials really shines through. It's an evolution of the design used in Volvo's gas-powered vehicles for years, with things like the vertical infotainment touchscreen flanked by air vents carrying over to this new interior, although the screen is now noticeably bigger and the glovebox has been relocated to sit underneath it. Comfortable seats are a Volvo claim to fame, and the EX30 delivers in this department as well. Recycled and sustainably sourced materials are used throughout, including denim, flax, and wool. To help you relax, you can listen to music on the standard 100-watt 5-speaker stereo, or you can upgrade to the 9-speaker 1,040-watt Harman Kardon Premium Sound system. Powering this is the Google built-in infotainment system, which includes Google Maps and the Google hands-free voice assistant.

Volvo EX30

Advanced Safety

Safety has been a defining feature of Volvo vehicles for decades, and the EX30 continues this tradition with the absolute cutting-edge in safety technology. This includes things like a door opening alert, to tell you whether it's clear to open your door after parallel parking on the street, so a delivery van doesn't take the door off the second you open it. You also get a system for detecting a drowsy or distracted driver, a 360° camera, and a self-parking system. The Pilot Assist system can change lanes for you, and will maintain a comfortable distance from trucks when they pull up alongside you on the highway. All of this is incorporated into the safety-forward design practices that have characterized Volvo for many years. It's a level of safety you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in this price range.
