About the Volvo EX30

With the EX30, Volvo brings a practical and desirable small electric SUV to city dwellers, who have previously had all too few options when shopping for an EV. The EX30 is just the second Volvo model to be built from the ground up to be an EV, and as such, it’s a technological powerhouse. The advanced drivetrain produces enormous power without sacrificing range. The interior features a next-generation evolution of Volvo’s signature design language, not to mention the comfort and calm that customers have come to expect from Volvo interiors. Buyers expecting the kind of attention to safety that Volvo is famous for will also be pleased by the high level of safety tech packed into the EX30. It’s even available in a Cross Country configuration, which comes with a robust set of off-road-ready equipment. The EX30 is everything you expect from a Volvo, and also raises the bar on what you can expect.

What the Critics Say

"The feel in the EX30 is all Volvo: Modern, thoughtful and solidly built. The drive is not a disappointment: powerful and responsive. And the price, well, that's a delightful surprise. When we start to see the Volvo EX30 on the street this summer, expect a lot of discussion around rethinking the viability of electric cars." — Forbes

"Guiding the EX30 through the crowded streets of Barcelona is a joy, as its 104.3-inch wheelbase and 166.7-inch overall length are tailor-made for dicing it up with the city cars and scooters that populate most of the Comital City's traffic." — Car & Driver

What’s New For 2026

Volvo expanded the configuration options for the EX30 in 2026 with two major additions. The first is a Cross Country version with raised suspension, off-road wheels and tires, and underbody protection. The second option is a single-motor drivetrain that brings with it a lower starting price and a bit more range.

Volvo EX30 Features

Volvo EX30

Efficient Performance

The EX30 comes with a choice of two different all-electric drivetrain configurations. The standard configuration is the Single Motor Extended Range, a rear-wheel drive setup that produces 268 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. For more power, you have the option of the all-wheel drive Twin Motor Performance drivetrain which produces 422 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. That is an enormous amount for a subcompact, and it’s not surprising that the EX30 is the quickest-accelerating Volvo model of all time, with a 0-60 time of just 3.4 seconds. The EX30 stands out even more with a 2,000 towing capacity for both configurations, in a segment where not many vehicles are rated for towing at all. And while it might seem like such a small vehicle with such enormous power wouldn’t have great range, the Twin Motor EX30 can go up to 253 miles on a full charge and the Single Motor can go 261 miles, meeting or exceeding the range of the much less powerful competition. The EX30 accomplishes this by having an incredibly advanced drivetrain and battery architecture, which also allows for DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in just 28 minutes.

Volvo EX30 Interior

Serene Interior

The EX30 is at its most Scandinavian on the inside. Here the familiar design practice of simple and ergonomic design using high-quality materials really shines through. It's an evolution of the design used in Volvo's gas-powered vehicles for years, with things like the vertical infotainment touchscreen flanked by air vents carrying over to this new interior, although the screen is now noticeably bigger and the glovebox has been relocated to sit underneath it. Comfortable seats are a Volvo claim to fame, and the EX30 delivers in this department as well. Recycled and sustainably sourced materials are used throughout, including denim, flax, and wool. To help you relax, you can listen to music on the incredible 9-speaker 1,040-watt Harman Kardon Premium Sound system that is standard on the EX30. Powering this is the Google built-in infotainment system, which includes Google Maps and the Google hands-free voice assistant.

Volvo EX30

Advanced Safety

Safety has been a defining feature of Volvo vehicles for decades, and the EX30 continues this tradition with the absolute cutting-edge in safety technology. This includes things like a door opening alert, to tell you whether it's clear to open your door after parallel parking on the street, so a delivery van doesn't take the door off the second you open it. You also get a system for detecting a drowsy or distracted driver, a 360° camera, and a self-parking system. The Pilot Assist system can change lanes for you, and will maintain a comfortable distance from trucks when they pull up alongside you on the highway. All of this is incorporated into the safety-forward design practices that have characterized Volvo for many years. It's a level of safety you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in this price range.
