About the Volvo EX90

The first Volvo to be designed specifically as an electric model, the EX90 shows off the future of the company with a supremely desirable combination of design, luxury, and advanced technology. This 7-seat SUV is roughly the same size as the XC90 and has a design that looks similar while still being clearly distinct as its own model. It has a range of up to 305 miles and a suite of safety technology so advanced that Volvo is saying it is “safer than any Volvo car to come before it”, a significant achievement from a brand so synonymous with safety. There is a choice of three potent electric drivetrains in RWD and AWD configurations, including a high-performance option.

What the Critics Say

“The suspension is supple and provides good ride quality, and the steering is well-weighted. The air suspension is height-adjustable and it combines with adaptive dampers to smooth out the road nicely. The cabin also remains remarkably quiet, even by the standards of an electric vehicle.” – Car & Driver

“In the Scandinavian tradition, the EX90 spoils occupants without being flashy. You don’t buy it to inform your neighbors and coworkers that you’ve arrived. You buy it to tickle your eardrums with the $3,200 25-speaker Dolby Atmos–enabled Bowers & Wilkens audio system or to treat your lower back to those therapeutic seats. The only hint of ritzy opulence comes from the warm, white glow that shines through the sustainably harvested wood trim at night, a tasteful counterpoint to the ribbons of carnival lights used by the luxury-car establishment.” – MotorTrend

What’s New For 2026

The EX90 might still be a pretty new model, but Volvo gave the drivetrain a complete overhaul for 2026, giving it 800-volt architecture that greatly improves DC fast charging times. The electric motors are more powerful now, with both Twin Motor options now coming with significantly higher horsepower ratings. This has also allowed Volvo to introduce a new Single Motor drivetrain, which means a lower starting price for the EX90. Onboard computers get some updates to be quicker, and some new features have been added as well, like a slippery road warning system and an unresponsive driver assist. Lastly, the previously optional electrochromic glass roof is now standard.

Volvo EX90 Features

Volvo EX90

Electric Performance

The EX90 offers impressive versatility in part thanks to the choice of three different drivetrains. The standard drivetrain is a single motor setup that powers the rear wheels. This motor produces 329 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, which is more than either of the conventional drivetrains in the EX90’s popular counterpart, the XC90. Nevertheless, for those who want more power, there is the all-wheel drive Twin Motor drivetrain, which produces 449 horsepower and 494 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough for a 5.3-second 0-60 time, which is incredibly quick for a three-row SUV. Yet there is still an even more powerful option, the Twin Motor Performance drivetrain, with 670 horsepower and 642 lb-ft of torque. That will send the EX90 to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds, sports car performance from a big and comfortable SUV. And all with a maximum range of 305 miles.

Volvo EX90 Charging

Technological Leader

The EX90 is built as the flagship of Volvo’s new fleet of electric vehicles and is also a showcase of the amazing new technology to come. It uses a new EV architecture, different from that used in existing EV models. These groundbreaking engineering advancements mean that you can take advantage of its advanced DC fast charging capabilities. That means changing from 10 to 80 percent takes just about 22 minutes. This being Volvo, there is advanced safety technology as well. This includes LiDAR and an interior occupant sensing system that will turn on the climate control and open a window if a child or animal is detected in the vehicle while it’s parked.

Volvo EX90 Interior

Scandinavian Luxury

The EX90 incorporates an evolution of the interiors found in current Volvo models. The premium materials and clean aesthetics are designed to give occupants the sense of sitting in a Scandinavian living room. The vertical central touchscreen is similar to those found in current interiors although at 14.5 inches, the EX90’s is much larger. There is a standard premium stereo which is sure to impress as the Bose system comes with a total of 14 speakers and 17 channels. Volvo has discontinued the use of leather in their electric vehicles, so for upholstery, you have a choice between sustainably sourced wool and Nordico, a leather-like material that is made from recycled and bio-sourced materials that made debut with the EX90. There is an extra level of comfort and luxury in the Volvo EX90 thanks to the smoothness available air suspension and the adaptive dampening that comes standard..
